In 2024, for its XXVII edition, the San Martín festival will take place in the town of Fuencaliente, where the traditional "Jura de la Pipa" will be held in honor of La Palma's new wine. This ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m. on the day before San Martín, at the Town Hall Plaza, as part of the first Gastronomic Festival "La Palma Me Sabe."

The event poster for 2024, titled "ORIGEN," was created by Ester Hernández Cabrera, a student at the Manolo Blahnik School of Art.

The San Martín Festival on La Palma, celebrated every November 11, is a special occasion where the new wine is tasted for the first time in the island's old wineries. This tradition, once observed in most of La Palma's wineries, was revived in 1996 by the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin La Palma, which has officially organized the festival since then. During the celebration, educational sessions are held focusing on viticulture and winemaking, aimed at supporting and educating the region's winegrowers and producers. Each year, the event is held in a different municipality, where a lunch with typical regional dishes and a Denomination of Origin wine tasting are offered.

A charming part of this festival is the children's tradition, where kids walk the streets singing songs to San Martín and rhythmically tapping on cans, adding a joyful and picturesque touch to the festivities.

San Martín at the Island Markets

This weekend, from November 8 to 10, 2024, La Palma will be filled with flavors and joy during the San Martín 2024 celebration, a true gastronomic feast held in various corners of the island. To celebrate this special day, several markets on La Palma will offer activities such as local product tastings, roasted chestnuts, wine, inflatables for kids, and live music. Visit the markets of Villa de Mazo, El Paso, and Puntagorda. This year, the Barlovento market will also serve as a collection point for non-perishable food and other aid items, in solidarity with the city of Valencia following the recent flooding.
