The Fiestas del Socorro 2026 in Breña Baja will take place from 27 to 31 August. During these days, the neighbourhood will bring together residents and visitors with bell ringing, traditional games, street parades, a water party, musical performances, a romería, Baile de Magos and religious celebrations in honour of the Virgin of El Socorro.
Among the main highlights are the 14th Romería de El Socorro, the floral offering, the extraordinary procession to the Centro Psicosocial Villaflora, the solemn religious service and the Auto Mariano with the appearance of the Gato Belial, one of the most unique and symbolic scenes of the festivities.

“De Verbeneo” programme with David Pérez from Radio Rumberos FM, broadcast live throughout the Canary Islands.

Water Party with shows and entertainment by TABAYZÚ.
9:00 p.m.:
3rd Juan Antonio Linares Luis Festival, with the parranda Chigadá from La Gomera and Los Viejos. Presented by David Pérez.
Saturday, 29 August

6:00 p.m.:
14th Romería de El Socorro 2026, starting from the centre of San Antonio along the Camino del Tonolero. Taking part will be the Agrupación de Bailarines de El Norte, Parranda Chigadá, Parranda Las Muchachas, Parranda Kal y Canto and El Barco Tradicional. At the end, there will be an offering to the Virgin of El Socorro.
10:00 p.m.:
Baile de Magos with the orchestras Código Latino, Guaydil and Sensación Gomera.
12:00 a.m.:
2nd Auto Mariano on the iconography of the Virgin of El Socorro, with dance, the appearance of the pyrotechnic Gato Belial, masked figures and giants, in collaboration with the Breña Baja Theatre School.

The Gato Belial at the Fiestas del Socorro
The Gato Belial is one of the most striking figures of the Fiestas del Socorro in Breña Baja. Its origin is linked to an old legend connected with the Virgin of El Socorro, in which Belial represents the demon and symbolises evil.
According to tradition, a mother, in a moment of anger, asked the demon to take her child away. When she realised what she had said, she regretted it and asked the Virgin for help. The Virgin of El Socorro then intervened to protect the child and defeat the demon, who appears subdued beneath her feet in traditional iconography.
During the festivities, this story comes to life through the Gato Belial, a pyrotechnic figure that combines fire, music, dance and popular theatre. Its appearance recalls the struggle between good and evil and has become one of the most anticipated moments of the celebration.
