
The municipality of El Paso is preparing for an unforgettable month of festivities, taking place from February 22 to March 22 2025. The streets will come alive with parades, costume contests, live music, and gastronomic events, but the main highlight will be the Wig Festival. This iconic event gathers hundreds of people wearing extravagant wigs in a vibrant night of dancing and fun, making it a must-see event during the island's carnival.
The Wig Festival: The Heart of El Paso's Carnival
The Wig Festival in El Paso is the grand finale of a day filled with joy, featuring parrandas, a gastronomic route, and activities for the little ones. The celebration will take place on Saturday, February 22, on Calle Fermín Sosa Pino, starting at 7:30 PM, with performances by Palmeran music groups and DJs who will set the rhythm for this unique night. Friday, February 21
At 5:00 PM, the youngest ones will enjoy the Children’s Costume Party, featuring workshops, inflatable castles, music, beloved children's characters, and fun games. The event will take place at the Municipal Market.
Saturday, February 22
Starting at 1:00 PM, football fans can attend the 5th Veterans' Carnival Tournament, where CD Atlético Paso and UF Lanzarote will face off at the Municipal Stadium.
The festive atmosphere will take over the streets with various activities in Plaza Francisca de Gazmira:
12:00 - 7:00 PM: Ruta del Gallo, a gastronomic route where local establishments offer tapas and drinks to highlight the region's cuisine, accompanied by DJ Edwyn.
12:00 - 2:00 PM: El Gallo Kids, a special cooking workshop for children. Limited spots available; prior registration required.
2:00 - 7:00 PM: Activities such as the “Decorate Your Wig” workshop, inflatable castles, the fantasy workshop “Glitter Yara”, all accompanied by music from DJ Xavi.
In Avenida Islas Canarias, more events will take place:
4:00 - 6:00 PM: Face Painting Workshop at Children’s Recreational Center "El Árbol".
5:30 PM: The Carnival Parranda begins, departing by train from Barranco de Las Canales to Avenida Islas Canarias, featuring the A.F. Volcán de San Juan folk group and masqueraders, along with traditional sweets distribution.
From 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, at the Town Hall Atrium, the “El Paso Crece” Photocall will be set up, hosting a contest for the most original and fun wig, organized by the El Paso Business Association, with shopping vouchers as prizes.
In Calle Manuel Taño:
6:30 PM: Street Parade with Batucada Badakatun, La Charanga, Grupo Zumba, Dori Martín, Comparsa Río de Fuego, Murga Los Canchanchanes, and other carnival characters. The route starts at Calle José María Pérez Brito and ends at Calle Manuel Taño.
In Calle Fermín Sosa Pino:
7:30 PM: Wig Festival, featuring performances by Escuela de Calor, Maquinaria Band, DJ Visac, DJ Renzzo El Selector, Tropicana’s, and DJ Indi.
Sunday, February 23
At 5:00 PM, the Senior Citizens' Festival will take place, dedicated to the elderly, featuring musical and comedic performances, along with a contest for the best wig. The event will be held at the Fairground.
Friday, February 28
Starting at 10:00 AM, the main streets of the municipality will host the Carnival Parade "The Four Seasons," concluding at Plaza Francisca de Gazmira.
Saturday, March 3
At 3:00 PM, the Burial of the Rabbit will take place at Avenida Islas Canarias.
