In 2026, the festivities in honour of Our Lady the Virgin of La Luz will take place from 3 to 17 August. As happens every year during the patron saint celebrations, the municipality of Garafía will offer activities for all ages, including sports tournaments, dances, food, culture and traditions. Here is the complete day-by-day programme, so you do not miss anything.

FESTIVITIES PROGRAMME - VILLA DE GARAFÍA

Monday, 3 August

At 6:00 p.m., the Rey Mala Tournament will take place in the bar area of the Casa de la Cultura.

At 8:00 p.m., the pétanque tournament will begin at the Casa de la Cultura pétanque court.

Tuesday, 4 August

At 8:00 p.m., the table football tournament will take place in the bar area of the Casa de la Cultura.

At the same time, the pétanque tournament will be held at the Casa de la Cultura pétanque court.

Wednesday, 5 August

At 10:00 a.m., the 24th Llano Negro Cycling Climb will begin. The route will start in Santo Domingo and follow the Cueva de Agua road to Llano Negro.

At 7:00 p.m., the Singles versus Couples football match will take place at the Ismael Fernández Hernández Football Ground.

At 8:00 p.m., the pétanque tournament will continue at the Casa de la Cultura pétanque court.

Thursday, 6 August

At 4:00 p.m., the women’s padel tournament will be held at the padel court of the Ismael Fernández Hernández Football Ground.

At 6:00 p.m., the chess tournament will take place in Room 1 of the Casa de la Cultura.

At 7:00 p.m., an introductory wine-tasting course will be held in a classroom at the Casa de la Cultura.

Friday, 7 August

At 4:00 p.m., the men’s padel tournament will take place at the padel court of the Ismael Fernández Hernández Football Ground.

At 7:00 p.m., the introductory wine-tasting course will be offered again in a classroom at the Casa de la Cultura.

Saturday, 8 August

At 10:15 a.m., the “Lo Extremito” category will begin.

At 10:40 a.m., the “Extremo Júnior” category will begin.

At 11:30 a.m., the general “Lo Natural Extremo” category will start, with the different events departing from the Casa de la Cultura.

At 2:30 p.m., trophies will be presented to the winners of the different categories in Baltazar Martín Square.

Sunday, 9 August

At 12:30 p.m., a Mass for the young people of the municipality will be celebrated at the Church of Our Lady the Virgin of La Luz.

At 6:00 p.m., the air-rifle tournament will take place at the Casa de la Cultura pétanque court.

Monday, 10 August

At 8:00 p.m., Tabayzú will organise a car gymkhana for young people and adults in Díaz y Suárez Street.

Tuesday, 11 August

At 4:00 p.m., younger children will be able to enjoy inflatable attractions, children’s music and a foam party organised by Tabayzú in Baltazar Martín Square.

At 7:30 p.m., a children’s gymkhana, also organised by Tabayzú, will take place in Ismael Fernández Square.

At 9:00 p.m., the film “The Boxtrolls” will be screened for children in the Casa de la Cultura auditorium.

Wednesday, 12 August

At 12:00 noon, a Eucharist dedicated to the town’s elderly and sick residents will be celebrated at the Church of Our Lady the Virgin of La Luz.

At 2:00 p.m., the Villa de Garafía Senior Citizens’ Community Lunch will take place in the Casa de la Cultura auditorium.

At 4:00 p.m., the 2nd International “Punto y Clave” Versadores Gathering will begin in Baltazar Martín Square. It will feature the first-time participation of Anabeivi Rodríguez and Adriana Fajardo, both from Cuba, joined by Joseíto Bienes and Yapci Bienes from the Canary Islands. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Grupo Punto y Clave.

At 5:00 p.m., there will be a dance for senior citizens featuring Zebensui Melián in Baltazar Martín Square.

At 7:00 p.m., the Salvatierra Municipal Band will perform a concert in Baltazar Martín Square.

At 9:00 p.m., the family film “¡Vaya vacaciones!” will be screened in the Casa de la Cultura auditorium.

Thursday, 13 August 

At 7:00 p.m., the theatre group “Los de Denantes” will perform the play “Cosas que pasaron después del volcán” in Baltazar Martín Square.

At 8:00 p.m., the music and dance group “Brisas del Norte” will perform in the same location.

At 9:00 p.m., Josué Villanueva, Davinia Pérez and Diego Expósito will present the musical show “Paisajes Sonoros, viaje por la memoria” in Baltazar Martín Square.

At 10:00 p.m., the musical group “Los Chicos del Son” will perform, also in Baltazar Martín Square.

Friday, 14 August

At 2:00 p.m., the participating wineries will open their stands in Baltazar Martín Square: Bodega Juan Jesús Pérez y Adrián, SAT Bodegas Perdomo and Bodegas Onésima Pérez Rodríguez.

At the same time, the mini craft fair will open. Tapas and local food products prepared by SAT “Sabores de Garafía” and the Llano Negro Bus Station Bar-Café will also be available in Baltazar Martín Square.

At 2:30 p.m., the 3rd Vintage and Classic Vehicle Gathering will take place in Ismael Fernández Square. Advance registration is required.

Also at 2:30 p.m., inflatable attractions, workshops and face painting for younger children will begin in Baltazar Martín Square, organised by Tabayzú.

At 3:00 p.m., Zebensui Melián and the folk group “Los Derrepente” will perform in Baltazar Martín Square.

At 4:00 p.m., Carnicería La Fuente will give a professional ham-carving demonstration in the same location.

At 8:00 p.m., Andrea Rodríguez will present the show “Trópico de Capri” in Baltazar Martín Square.

At 10:00 p.m., the musical group “Vinilo’s Band” will perform.

From 11:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., DJ X, DJ Yardi and a foam party organised by Tabayzú will provide entertainment in Baltazar Martín Square.

Saturday, 15 August

At 2:00 p.m., the traditional gathering will take place at the Port of Santo Domingo.

At 9:30 p.m., a grand dance will begin in Baltazar Martín Square, featuring the groups “Calle 3” and “K-Nela”, together with the orchestra “Sensación Gomera”.

Sunday, 16 August

At 8:30 p.m., a solemn Mass in honour of Our Lady the Virgin of La Luz will be celebrated at her church, with music performed by the Awara Choir.

The procession will follow, accompanied by the Salvatierra Municipal Band, and will include the staging of the traditional Cuadros Plásticos, or living tableaux.

At 10:00 p.m., there will be a dance with the group Armonía Latina in Baltazar Martín Square.

Monday, 17 August

Advance registration is required before 13 August by calling 922 40 04 33.

At 9:00 a.m., buses will depart for the Roque de Los Muchachos from the bus stop beside the Casa de la Cultura.

At 10:00 a.m., scheduled visits for residents of the municipality of Villa de Garafía will begin at the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory.

At 2:00 p.m., the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias will provide lunch for participants in the unpaved parking area beside the observatory residence.

At 7:00 p.m., Valentín Martínez Pillet, Director of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, will give the lecture “The August 2026 Solar Eclipse” in the Casa de la Cultura auditorium.
