History and Charm of La Recova
The La Recova building stands on the site of the former Hospital de Dolores, a neoclassical structure that has been part of the city’s history since the 16th century.
Over the centuries, the space evolved from a hospital to the commercial heart of Santa Cruz de La Palma.
In 2005, the market was completely renovated, improving its structure, ventilation and accessibility while preserving its traditional charm.
Today, it features 13 stalls and 12 shops, where local producers offer the best of the island in an atmosphere full of aromas, colours and smiles.
A historical curiosity adorns its façade: a wooden funerary panel from 1753, created by the tobacco collector Jacob de Morales Figueroa, one of the oldest artistic pieces in the building.
In 2024, La Recova celebrated its 138th anniversary, reaffirming its role as a symbol of local identity and a bridge between tradition and modernity.
